(Stanford, Ca.) Virginia Intermont senior Fernando Cabada finished second in the Stanford Invitational 5,000-meters to run the fastest time by a collegiate athlete in any division, NCAA, NAIA or NJCAA, so far this season.

Cabada, who ran 13:43.83 behind Nike's Balota Asmeron's 13:41.21, is nearly three seconds ahead of Eastern Kentucky's Jacob Korir, who was third and leads NCAA Division I. The Stanford Invitational is one of the top track meets in the country evidenced by the quality of the field in Cabada's race which included 2004 Olympian Gabe Jennings.

Cabada will have a chance to better his mark at the Mt. SAC Relays in two weeks and, in the mean time, will compete along side his teammates at the Duke Invitational next weekend.
