2006 Gala Coverage: |
"Virginia's Best Against the Rest in the Nation!"The MileStat.com Elite Track Gala will return for its second running on Saturday, June 9th at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond, Virginia. Last year's Gala was a great start to what looks to be a high caliber post-season high school meet to attract great out-of-state talent to compete against some of the best athletes that Virginia has to offer. Last year's meet featured two national champions in Mike Morrison and Katie Doswell and plenty of state champions. Athletes traveled great distances to be part of the first annual event with representatives from a total of 11 states and the District of Columbia. The 2007 version of the Gala will be compacted into one day and will feature only individual events. However, there will be on exception to conclude the meet in an all-star distance medley relay. Along with the all-star relay, the meet will feature two unique high school events in the rarely contested high school 5000 meter run, high school 2000 meter steeplechase, and high school 400 meter hurdles.
Meet Purpose - This meet serves several purposes: · To help high school athletes continuing their outdoor track season for Nike Outdoor Nationals, the meet can serve as a tune-up prior to NON. Several of the events offered at the meet are unique events that are not offered in regular season competition to prepare athletes for the event at nationals such as the 2000 meter steeple, 400 meter hurdles, 5000 meter run, etc. Many athletes may feel the weekend layoff will leave them rusty or unfocused for nationals. This meet will correct that! · To help high school athletes who cannot compete at Nike Outdoor Nationals for whatever reason it may be (did not qualify, schedule conflict such as high school graduation, money/transportation issues, etc.), the MileStat.com Elite Track Gala can serve as a great alternative meet for athletes wishing to continue their season for one final meet after their state championship. The seventh place finisher from the regional meet who just missed qualifying for the state meet. The state champion who just missed breaking 5 minutes in the 1600 meter run at the state meet. The senior who had a poor race at states and would like to close out their high school career on a better note. The Group A and private school star who wants to show they can run with the "big school" kids. Whatever your background or circumstances may be, there are many compelling factors to motivated to participate in a post-season meet opportunity like this! · To bring together some of the best athletes together in and out of the state of Virginia regardless of classification. These athletes had been separated from competition against each other throughout the entire championship season from mid-May on. While a "Meet of Champions" may never exist in Virginia, this may be the closest thing to it! · To help support MileStat.com! Funds from the meet will go directly to help supporting MileStat.com and its staff in maintaining one of the best state high school running sites in the nation!
