Two mile world record holder Daniel Komen of Kenya will be at MileStat.com Track Classic

MileStat.com is excited to share a last second announcement for this weekend's MileStat.com Elite Track Classic in Richmond, Virginia. The meet will have a very special guest in attendance for athletes, coaches, and spectators to get autographs from and take photos with the world record holder at two miles and 3000 meters in Daniel Komen from Kenya. Komen is the only human being ever to run back to back sub four minute miles when he established the world record in 1997 with a 7:58.61 performance at an IAAF track league meet held in Belgium. Komen was one of the world's best for a two year period from 1996 and 1998 setting several world records. He finished his career with the following PR's: 3:29.46 1500m, 3:46.38 mile, 7:20.67 3000m, 12:39.74 5000m, and 27:38.52 1000m. Don't miss out on an opportunity to meet one of the fastest distance runners ever on Planet Earth this weekend!

Also during the 200 meter dash and approximiately 30 minutes before the start of the girls' 200 meter steeplechase, Komen and fellow Kenyan and former Virginia Intermont College star David Cheromei will be offering a free and brief 15-20 minute clinic for aspiring steeplers and coaches on the backstretch around the 300 meter hurdles mark. Cheromei and Veritas School head coach Christian Cuthbert are part of the Train with Kenyans group, which actually offers a summer training camp in Kenya for distance runners in the United States as well as summer running camps locally in Virginia and the United States. On Sunday, May 5th at Pocahontas State Park in Chesterfield County, Train with Kenyans will be hosting a running clinic for athletes and coaches. Flyers and more information on the upcoming clinic and more about the Train with Kenyans group can be found at the meet this weekend by visiting the Train with Kenyans table which will be setup at the track facility.
