The Centreville girls team, led by junior Brittni Finch, holds the lead after day one of the Concorde District championships with 43 points.
Finch was a double winner last Thursday evening at the Prince George\'s Sports and Learning Complex as she defended her titles in both the long jump at 18 feet, 4 inches and also the high jump at 5-0.
Finch was also the leading qualifier for the 55 meter dash with a seasonal best time of 7.34 seconds in the semifinals after running 7.40 in the trials and is favored to defend her title in the triple jump along with being scheduled to run on the 4x200 and 4x400 meter relays for Centreville at day two of the championships this Thursday at the P.G. Complex.
Centreville also received a win in the shot put from junior Stephanie White (34-8) and positioned themselves about as well as they could in the other running event trials with senior Hana Tran the top qualifier in the 55 hurdles at 8.69 and having the two fastest qualifiers in the 300 meter dash trials in senior Cate Tisinger (41.73) and junior Jordan Grant (41.78).
Westfield sits in second place with 31.5 points and won the other final contested on day one with their 4x800 relay team of senior Laura Pramstaller and the junior class trio of Eman Bani, Chrissy Esposito and Brittany Sevachko winning at 9:41.17 with Sevachko splitting 2:19.7 on her anchor carry.
The Bulldogs also received 14 important points in the shot put after going 2-3 in the event with freshman Kaylin Newman and junior Brooke Fremeau and in the slower seeded section of the 1,600 run, junior Kerry Hartman, who missed the first half of the season with a leg injury and therefore did not have a time fast enough for the top seeded section, was the winner in a time that should hold up for a few points at 5:15.18.
Robinson is third with 16 points and had junior Kalia Lewis place second in the high jump (4-10); Oakton is currently in fourth place with 15.5 points and had their 4x800 relay squad finish second in a state atuo qualifying time of 9:44.44; Herndon is fifth with 10 points after junior Lauren Pinkston\'s runnerup finish in the long jump (16-2.25) and Chantilly has eight points in sixth place with 1,600 and 3,200 meter run top seeded sophomore Lia DiValentin anchoring the Chargers 4x800 relay in 2:19.6.
On the boys side, defending champion Centreville leads with 30 points in fairly balanced scoring which sees five schools still within 12 points of each other thus far.
Centreville captured just one event of the four finals contested last Thursday but it produced 18 points in all for the Wildcats as senior Brandon Davis defended his title in the long jump with a new district meet record effort of 22-2.75 and senior teammate Brandon Williams also exceeded the old meet record mark with his second place leap of 21-10.5.
Centreville also received third place finishes in the 4x800 relay and in the shot put from Corey McCabe and had the top qualifiers in both the 55 hurdles in senior Daryl Hamilton (8.29) and the 55 dash with defending titleist Brandon Williams (6.63).
Westfield is currently in second place on the boys side as well and came away with a win in the shot put from senior Andrew Pittman (48-0.25) in defending his district title with junior Ty Ruland chipping in with a second place finish in the shot at 45-1.5. The Bulldogs also had the top two qualifiers in the 300 dash with senior defending champion Kevin Dillard (36.16) and sophomore Matt Anderson (36.44).
Robinson is third with 22 points and took home the 4x800 relay crown with the team of junior Martin Wester and seniors Dominic Collins, Wes Shaw and Dan McHale in 8:12.37 with McHale anchoring in 1:58.6.
Oakton is fourth with 20 points and produced their best time of the season in finishing second in the 4x8 relay in 8:14.33 along with having junior Nyema Wolo with the second fastest time in the 55 dash semis (6.66) and the number three time in the 300 trials at 36.70.
Chantilly has 18 points and had the other individual winner from day one with sophomore Wesley Sun clearing 12-6 to capture the pole vault while Herndon has nine points and easily qualified senior Jeremiah Headen (8.30) and junior Andrew Obcemea (8.46) for the 55 hurdle finals.
