Trinity (Richmond, VA) senior Jamie Hiegel entered the VISAA State meet in his hometown as the solid favorite for his first state title (he lost last year by .02). He led from the gun and held strongly to that lead for 99% of the race, until the final 50m where his junior teammate Steven Jean caught him and battled it out until the line. He made up a staggering 40-50m deficit in the final 200m of the 16 lap race. Jean won in a time of 9:51.94 to win his first state title.
