The Year of The Hurdles & VA's Top 8 Hurdlers Countdown

Track and field is a sport with ebbs and flows each year. Nationally speaking this has been the year of the vault but in Virginia it has been the year of the hurdler.

In a state with tons of talent it is no surprise to see some stellar performances in many events but there is one that seems to be Virginia's specialty and that is the hurdles. Indoors, Virginia garnered a total of six national titles including three relay titles. Of those titles, two were in hurdling events including the Shuttle Hurdles Relay and Boys 60m Hurdles. Virginia advanced a whopping five individuals to the NBNI 60mH Semi-Finals and of course had a staggering three boys teams and three girls teams finish in the top 10 in the shuttle hurdle relays.

If that wasn't enough to prove the fact then we should also mention that in the two events Virginia won, both had a national record as well. The Western Branch Girls ran a 31.22 National Record in the relay with their "B" team placing 6th at 34.07 and Grant Holloway (Grassfield) ran a FAT 7.05 55m Hurdles National Record en route to his 60m Hurdles national title in #2 All-time fashion.

Though that seems like a lot, it could be nothing compared to what we are going to see individually and in the shuttle hurdles relays this spring at Outdoor Nationals. Here are your top hurdlers in the state this year according to personal records and titles won.
