#24: Andrew Hunter breaks Sean McGorty's State XC Meet Record! 14:41

This fall we knew all along that Andrew Hunter was on pace to do something very special his junior season. He opened the season running 15:27 on the hill course at Great Meadows giving us great insight to his fitness coming into the season. He then solidified that stature by running a monster 14:46 to win Great American XC Festival down in NC. He would go on to enter the state meet undefeated on the season, 8-0.

Being in 3A meant he was running on Friday this past year and he set the stage early for the weekend. His race went off in the very cold weather but that did not deter him from heating things up on the Great Meadows state course. After an impressive regionals we had hoped for a great race between him and Gannon Willcutts but Drew had other intentions in mind. He opened the race in a blistering 4:32! He then came through the 2 Mile mark at 9:11 to be right on pace. Of course running these splits meant he was way out in front of the field and his lead only grew.

He powered down the final stretch and crossed the line in 14:40 which rounds up in chip timing to an official 14:41. This time broke McGorty's record by six full seconds. He would go on to win the FL South regional in a pr of 14:36 cruising. He followed that up by finishing 4th at FL Nationals out in San Diego.
