Virginia Indoor Weekly Rundown: Week #2

Liberty Elite Meet
December 12th @Tolsma Indoor Track in Lynchburg

Girls Highlights

  • E.C.Glass wants everyone to know that Western Branch is not the only star-studded 4x800 in the state of Virginia. This weekend they ran US #2 9:43.76 (just a fraction of a second off of WB's US #1) to take home the 4x800. They did this without the help of Libby Davidson who was too busy placing 6th at Foot Locker Nationals! Watch out for this relay team when they run their full squad because they should be well under 9:00 this year.
  • Kami DeCarmo (E.C. Glass) didn't only run on the relay, she also doubled up an ran a very solid 3:03.62 in the 1000m run to finish just off of the state lead. She beat out Golden Kumi-Darfour of South Lakes who finished in 3:04.96.
  • Adiah Gholston of Blacksburg ran a very strong 1:20.1 in the 500 to finish second to Parkland's (NC) McKinley McNeill who was the US leader for the majority of last year.
  • In the 3200m there was a huge field that seemingly could have been a better field than most XC championships. Blacksburg's Marin, Link, Combs and Edwards were joined by Liberty Christian's Palmer and Salem's Moran. These girls all ran very fast considering how early it is but it was Marin who ultimately won the competition in 11:10.68. Her freshman teammate Link was second in 11:13.78 after having won the 3A State XC crown.

Boys Highlights

  • Rusburg's Isiah Garland had the best meet of anyone here running a VA #1 6.40 in the 55m dash and then  a VA #4 36.09 in the 300m dash to take both titles. He followed his 6.40 performance in the prelims with a 6.42 clocking in the finals.
  • Blacksburg's Sam Teller who was the state runner-up in XC won the 1600m in 4:27.83.
  • Staunton River's Jordan Patti launched a new VA #1 51-4.5 in the shot put competition.
