3A Boys
If you want to talk about coming down to the wire then this title race is the one you want to watch... well and two others that are also coming down to the last event! Here are the top 10 team scores through 14/17 events meaning the scores of the 800, 200, and 4x400 are still yet to be decided.
Men - State 3A - Team Rankings - 14 Events Scored =============================================================================== 1) Phoebus 65 2) Blacksburg High School 60.50 3) Staunton River High School 43.33 4) Lakeland High School 35 5) Turner Ashby 31 5) Abingdon High School 31 7) Western Albemarle 28.50 8) I.C. As you can quickly see, Phoebus and Blacksburg have all but secured that they will be the top two finishers. Western Albemarle and Turner Ashby though are going to be attempting to move up big time and take over that third position.

This is where things get very exciting for the team title. Though the 800 is also being run before this, that event mainly plays for the TA vs WA battle for third with Seamus Otto and Gannon Willcutts battling it out for that title. This 200 is going to decide a lot for the team title as we get to see Cole Beck vs Becnel and Brown in this section. Remember it is a final so that means they could walk and still score a point.
Right now if the 200 scored as it is on paper Blacksburg would move up to 68.5 points heading into the 4x400 and Phoebus would be sitting in first with 72 points. Blacksburg does have the tenth see in the 800 and if he improved just .80 seconds we are now talking about a deficit of just 2.5 points heading into the 4x400. Now if Cole Beck, who won the 100, also takes the 200 then the gap is down to .5 points and it is a head-to-head battle into the 4x4s.
Phoebus may not have as many scoring attempts as Blacksburg but they sure are happy the meet ends with the 4x400 because they do have the second seeded 4x400 behind just Turner Ashby. Blacksburg enters the competition seeded at sixth.
So, in summation... if everything gets scored as it is planned, Blacksburg needs to score big points in the 200 and hope for a point or two in the 800 to have a chance at catching Phoebus. Phoebus on the other hand can make it nearly impossible by just taking care of business in the 200. That will give them enough breathing room to make sure even if something bizarre happened in the 4x400 that they would be team champions.
