Park View senior Natalie Baird, who will be competing in all three throwing events (discus, shot, hammer) this week at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, was named today as Virginia's Gatorade Athlete of the Year in girls' track. Baird wrapped up an amazing high school career at Park View by breaking the state high school record in the discus throw with her AA State Meet mark of 161'7". She also became the first athlete to win the discus at Penn Relays for three consecutive years. Baird's outstanding work in the classroom (ranked 2nd in her class with a 4.37 unweighted GPA) and in the throws helped land her a scholarship to the College of William & Mary. She is currently ranked #7 in the nation in the discus and is a returning All-American from the 2007 Nike Outdoor Nationals in the event. Congratulations to Natalie on being named Gatorade Athlete of the Year! Boys athlete of the year to be announced soon!
