Rachel McArthur: State Champion, Villanova Commit, and Now National Champion

NEW YORK, Ny. - Even after running a monster 4:42.99 split in the DMR on Friday, Patriot senior Rachel McArthur found just another way to step up her game. On Sunday in the 800 it was the all Rachel show as she quickly took to the lead and never looked back. She went on to runaway with the national title in a US #9 all-time and VA state indoor record performance of 2:06.08.

Though it was Rachel's strategy to sit and kick like she usually does so well, this race actually turned out a lot different. It all started with this made up 30 minute delay. She, just like many others, was told they were 30 minutes behind on the schedule but it turned out to be a whole lot less. That meant Rachel and many others scrambling to get ready and onto the track for their race.

This may have affected others but not a veteran like Rachel. She started strong and after a couple laps went to the front. By the time the bell lap came, she was by herself and pulling away even more. Down the stretch, where she thought she was going to be in full gear she was able to smile and power thru the final 100 knowing she was going to win that national title.

She will be taking a short break to get healthy once again and told us it is was too early to speculate her outdoor track focus.
