Lauren Hoffman: US #1 & Now The Favorite For The 6A Title?

On her home track, Battlefield senior Lauren Hoffman showed a lot of grit taking home the 400H title in a US #1 61.27 seconds. That time is just a few fractions of a second off of her VA #9 all-time performance of 1:00.48.

Though Virginia does not even run the 400mH distance, this performance shows us a lot about her fitness and what she might be capable of this season in the 300mH. She enters having run a VA #22 all-time performance of 42.64.

After finishing 10th, 4th, and last year 3rd in the 300H it is no secret to know that Lauren really wants that title. Each year she has improved but this year her improvement both over the short hurdles and in the longer open events is way ahead of her normal trajectory. She is on pace to run sub 41 but the question is will that be enough to win her that first state title?

Her biggest competition will come from Oscar Smith's Destiny Ward who was the runner-up last year with a 41.21 performance and ranks 4th all-time in VA. Both though will also have to face a strong competitor from Western Branch who is looking for their 4th title in a row in this event from a 3rd different girl.

All speculation aside, Lauren Hoffman is stepping her game up and one of the top athletes to keep an eye on this season.
