5A & 6A State Meet Preview

5A Boys State Championship

If you want to talk about a tight team finish that's going to come down to the 4x4, this is the one you should be talking about. Lee-Davis, Bethel, Potomac Senior, and Prince George are all going to vying for that top spot this weekend. Lee-Davis enters as the strong favorites and the numbers to back it up but Bethel is really known for their heroics and Potomac Senior is finally healthy. You cannot count anyone out.

Individuals wise, a lot of the same teams are involved too. You have Bethel's Edward Richardson III, Lee-Davis' Connor Scott, Potomac Seniors duo of Berbnor and Louis, and Prince George's Samuel and Brown. All of these guys will be deciding major points for their respective teams and it is safe to say the team title comes down to them.

Though both the distance events and sprint events will be stacked, the most stacked event might be the pole vault featuring Slinkman and Chapman who are vaulting their way way up the Virginia all-time list. They will be fighting for athlete of the meet honors with Douglas Freeman's Waleed Suliman who in his last state meet is also looking for some serious history and big times.

The race we are most looking forward to though is definitely the boys 3200. This event is so stacked and good that it actually seeded tougher than 6A. Any way you slice it, 5A has more depth and talent this year at the 3200m distance than any other classification and its going to be a historic showdown for this title. It might even take close to a sub 9 performance to bring home the victory.

The guy we really have our eyes on is Benjamin Nibbelink from Tuscarora who blasted onto the scene at Dogwood this past month and really has shown a ton of improvement. He will have the entire field chasing him so be ready for a strong kick to decide this title.
