Western Albemarle: Young Talent Brings Them To #2 Preseason Ranking

The thing that makes XC the best season for many is the undeniable team aspect of the sport. Though you can win national titles and state titles all while setting records as an individual, it truly takes five guys or girls to bring home a team trophy in cross country.

Boys' Team #2: Western Albemarle High School

Only two teams enter the season with six guys under 17 minutes and one of them is our number two preseason team. The thing though that makes them not only on pace for a huge season this year but also next year is the fact that their entire top seven returns this year.

Now they should win the 3A state team title but definitely will face competition. The real story though is how this season is just a preview of the greatness to come. If their front two of Terrill and Hawkes, who are both sophomores, can dip under 16 minutes this year then we are on some serious historic pace. Keep an eye on this team this season and next as they attempt to be the 2018 NXN Champions.
