John Handley: High Jump U

John Handley, located in Virginia furthest North city (Winchester), is now home to the best high jumpers in the state. You have Taylor Beard and Trey Causey who both lead the state with their 5-9 and 6-11 bests.

These two superstars were not overnight sensations though that just happened to land in Winchester, these two are talented athletes that have been coached up to these nationally ranking heights. Trey for example is in his third indoor season and has gone from only clearing 5-6 to now opened essentially a foot higher at 6-6.

Taylor has not seen quite the level of progression but as a junior is really just getting started. Beard has improved though from her 4-10 clearance years ago to now being a three time state champion. She most certainly will be a name to watch this indoor season and up in New York at New Balance Nationals.

The question is though how are they getting so good? Being an athlete helps but it most certainly is because of their coaches. They know what they are doing and how to progress athletes. Trey for example has improved almost every outing and following this trend we should see a big jump from him in the near future.

Heading into the final two months of the season a lot of things are yet to be decided but if these two athletes train through regionals and focus on a huge state meet (4A) you can expect something special that will not be touched.
