MileStat.com Invitational - Updated Time Schedule & Parking

Due to large numbers, we will be breaking up the JV boys into two races. We want to have manageable races since it is a first year meet and chute management can be stressed to a breaking point if meets allow too large of fields. There will be only one JV girls race though. An updated meet time schedule is listed below and which school will be in which JV boys race. I have put most of the schools with the furthest drive from the meet in the first race, so you could potentially leave earlier and start your longer drive. Medals will be given to the top 15 finishers in each JV boys race, but only one team trophy will be given to the team with the fastest team average (all other race team champions will be determined by team scoring) of the two JV boys races. Varsity race will now have medals 20 deep.

IMPORTANT - PARKING - PLEASE READ!!!

It is really important that coaches, parents, and athletes understand that this venue is not the greatest for parking as it is limited in near vicinity to the course. This is the main reason we have attempted to the limit the size of this meet. Buses will need to drop off teams at the top field (where the XC course is found) entering the park and then drive down to the very end of the main park road to parking lot which they will need to remain until your team is ready to leave. When dropping off your team...your bus driver needs to make sure they are not blocking the lone road crossing of the course as races may be in progress.

So have your athletes take everything off the buses that they will need for the meet because where the buses will park is not walking distance (about 2 miles) from the course. Do not have your buses coming up to the top of the park sitting and waiting for an extended period of time blocking the main road from other buses and cars trying to leave.

It will make things much more efficient in everyone leaving the park if you coordinate with your bus driver an appropriate time at meet's end to come back up to the top of the park for pick-up. I suggest that you trade cell phone #'s with your driver and call them to drive up for pick-up when you have your team completely ready to go with all of their things so your team jumps on the bus as soon as it pulls up and go.

Please encourage your parents to carpool together if possible as this will insure that we do not have to utilize any overflow parking, which will be where the buses are located as I mentioned earlier is 2 miles away from the course. Arranging to have some form of a shuttle service this week just in case though. The parking area which parents and cars will be parking at is a half mile walk to the course. It is called the CCC Field and is located off the main park road less than a quarter mile on your right hand side after passing the park entrance gate. No buses will be allowed to park in this field and is only reserved for cars. There will be parking attendants directing cars and buses.

Also remind parents that there is a $5 parking fee collected by Pocahontas State Park and not meet management for any park visitors on the day. If they try to avoid this and park in an undesignated parking area of the park, the park police will ticket them and they will be paying much more than a $5 parking fee.

I will be doing a course video tour early this week and post on the site to give many of you who will be racing at Pocahontas for the first time, a better look at the course.

Looking forward to a great meet with some fast times and competitive races! I think both course records are in jeopardy and many of the teams and individuals you will see on Saturday will be racing for regional and state titles later this fall.

Sincerely,
Brandon Miles
