Keydet Men Compete at NCAA Regional Championships

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The VMI men's cross country team competed at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship Saturday in Louisville, Ky., posting a 27th place team finish. The Keydets' score of 681 points helped them beat such teams as College of Charleston, Wofford and others, despite VMI missing its top three finishers from the Big South Championships.

“The fact that our top three weren't able to compete for various reasons certainly affected our team score,” said VMI head coach Paul Spangler. “However, those who could take part today did well. Ermin Mujezinovic did a solid job for us, as did Chris Wunsch. Noah Hagos really stepped up and ran a good race, the best race of anyone on our team today.”

Mujezinovic was VMI's leading finisher Saturday, placing 86th in a time of 32:45, while Hagos completed the 10K course in 33:06 to place 115th. Wunsch was VMI #3 finisher, traversing the distance in 34:00 to finish 153rd, and he was trailed immediately by Matt Sagar's 154th place finish in 34:01. Matt Satterwhite (179th/34:42) and Booth Hornsby (195th/35:12) rounded out the VMI contingent.

Liberty's Sam Chelanga won the individual title by more than 30 seconds, while William and Mary's 49 points won the team crown by 50 markers over N.C. State.
