Cross Country Programs Announce 2011 Schedule

VMI Men Place Sixth at Blue Ridge Open

BOONE, N.C. – Competing in its final tune-up before the Big South Championships, the VMI men's cross country team placed sixth at the Blue Ridge Open, held Friday in Boone, N.C.

The team was paced by Andrey Dmitriev, who was the top finishing freshman in the 8K event. Dmitriev placed 12th in a time of 25:34; however, no other Keydet placed higher than 30th.

“I was disappointed with our performance,” said VMI head coach Paul Spangler. “Andrey ran well, but after him, we have some work to do. We did beat Clemson who is ranked regionally right now, and we'll go back and use these next two weeks to prepare and do what needs to be done before the conference meet.”

Ermin Mujezinovic was VMI's #2 finisher, placing 30th with a time of 26:02, and he was followed by Matt Sagar in 33rd (26:06). Ian McGinn placed 76th in 26:48, Felix Kitur completed the course in 26:53 to finish 78th and Chris Wunsch finished 86th in 27:00. Noah Hagos rounded out the VMI scoring in 87th (27:03), Matt Satterwhite was 98th (27:20), Booth Hornsby placed 106th (27:34) and Dante Morales finished 109th (27:43).

VMI men's cross country will return to action Saturday, Oct. 31, as the Keydets travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. to take part in the Big South Championships.
