Teams and athletes fight through the weather for good times

RICHMOND, VA -- Despite cold and windy conditions, the Manchester Relays was a smooth opener for many of Richmond area schools and there were some noteworthy performances.

The St. Catherine\'s girls continued to show their reign of dominance over the fellow area schools in the distance events as they took home wins in the 4x800 (10:34) and Distance Medley Relay (13:26). Leading the way for St. Catherine\'s was Morgan Barry with two strong legs on each relay.

Matt Wolak of Mills Godwin didn\'t seem to mind the wind as he blistered a 1:56 leg on the 4x800. However, the top team in the 4x800 was Lee-Davis as Steven Mohn held off Hermitage\'s Cary Chaffee for the win (8:22).

Chaffee though gave his squad a win in the Distance Medley Relay with an incredible 4:31 1600 leg (especially for the conditions), to give Hermitage a winning time of 11:05.

T.C. Williams made the long trip all the way from Alexandria to compete against the Central Region teams and performed very well as both boys (3:35) and girls (4:08) were victorious in the 4x400. The girls\' 4x100 also clocked a swift time of 50.92 to win the event.

The hurdles relay team of Nick Robinson and Matt Miles from Atlee took care of business in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles with wins in each.

Brother and sister, Steve and Hannah Carlson of Louisa County, teamed up with teammates Daniel Kane and Loren Cutright to run a meet record time of 9:17 to win the co-ed 4x800.

L.C. Bird\'s Jim Tiller outdid Manchester\'s William Collins in the shot put to help his two member relay win with a combined meet record mark of 95\'01.50\".
