Huntiznger and Robinson throwers overpower and outrun the field

FAIRFAX, VA -- Moved up a week earlier from previous years, the Carolyn Legard Relays encountered some nasty weather, but still managed to showcase some fine showings by Northern Virginia teams and inviduals.

The boys team title was won Gonzaga, a private school in Maryland, with 80 points, as James Robinson took second with 62 points. The Rams finished well thanks to their versatile throwers. Steve Huntzinger lead the way with throws of 54-10 in the shot put and 156-3 in the discus. With Huntzinger providing the thunder power, the two member relay team won with ease in both events. Not only did the throwers do their job in their specialities, but also stepped onto the track and got the job done. In the \"clydesdale\" 4x100, the James Robinson throwers won the relay in a scorching time of 49.5. Fortunately for the other teams in the field, it was a non-scoring event.

The Lake Braddock 4x800 squad consisting of Gilbert Elston, Peter Gardella, Steve Hoogland, and James McClellan ran a good early season time of 8:20 to win the race comfortably.

On the girls\' side, another Maryland school, Oxon Hill, won the team title (65 points). Thomas Jefferson (57 pts) and Westfield (53 pts) were not far behind in second and third.

Probably one of the best relay performances on the day was the dominant win by the Oakton distance medley relay with a time of 12:46 as having a 5:12 1600 leg from Keira Carlstrom didn\'t hurt.
