LYNCHBURG, Va. - Led by Lindsey Carty's personal best effort in the mile, VMI track and field was in action Friday at the Liberty Quad, hosted by Liberty University in Lynchburg.
Carty finished seventh in the mile, as her time of 5:20.59 was a personal best by some 13 seconds. Leah Schubel was 13th in the event, and Sam Conde made her season debut in the event as well.
Zipporah McCann was in action as well, taking part in a pair of events. The junior finished sixth in the long jump with a 5.13 M (16'10"), and also took part in the 60-meter hurdles. The throwing contingent also competed Friday, including Aquisi Harris. Harris, coming off a personal best in last weekend's Winter Relays, finished fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 14.31 M (46'11 ½").
Finally, Ian McGinn ran his first mile of the indoor season, finishing 12th in a time of 4:34.60.
Due to a late scratch, the Keydets did not field anyone in day one's events at the Akron Invitational. However, they will return to action at that event tomorrow, with action beginning at 9 a.m.
