The VMI track and field teams will compete this weekend at the IC4A and ECAC Championship meets, both of which will be held in Boston, Mass. Live results of the IC4A's will be available via Lancer Timing at the link above, while Flotrack.org will be on hand to tape the races. The events will be posted on their web site once the meet is completed.
The IC4A Championships will take place at Boston University and begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, while the ECAC meet will be held across Boston at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center. That event will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday morning. Between the two events, the Keydets will have 12 representatives in Beantown this weekend, and a complete breakdown appears below.
ECAC 400-meters - Chandale Williams, Sr. - Williams' best time this season, a 57.57 at last weekend's Big South Indoor Championships, qualified her for this meet due to a unique process that took place. That time was recorded on a flat track, and when the effort was converted, the new time was good enough to earn her a spot in this weekend's proceedings. The 400-meter qualifying rounds will go off at 2:20 Saturday afternoon.
ECAC Pole Vault - Kate Collins, Fr. - Collins has already established herself as one of the two best vaulters in the history of the VMI program, and now, she will begin what many hope will be a long string of ECAC appearances. The 2010 Big South Champion will compete at 11 a.m. Sunday morning.
IC4A 200-meters - James Alexander, Jr. - One of the leaders of the VMI team, Alexander has had a banner year, one that included qualifying for this weekend's proceedings in both the 200 and the 400-meter races. In order to focus and hopefully improve his results, Alexander will only run the 200-meters, which is scheduled to start at 3:40 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
IC4A 800-meters - Felix Kitur, Jr. - Kitur will be looking to improve upon the NCAA provisional qualifying time he put up two weeks ago at Virginia Tech, a 1:49.55 that currently ranks 27th in the country. Although it was a qualifying time, it will be difficult for Kitur to advance to Nationals with that ranking. The junior will look to move up the qualification list beginning Saturday at 2:20.
IC4A High Jump - Dennis James, Jr. - James' season-opening jump of 2.04 meters qualified him for this event, which will start Sunday at noon.
IC4A Shot Put - Cody Davis, Jr. - Perhaps the most improved VMI competitor this season, Davis set several personal bests this season, capped by a 15.65 meter throw at the Akron Invitational. That will be his qualifying effort for the IC4A meet, as the shot put begins Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
IC4A Weight Throw - Chad Lawson, Jr. - Lawson had several IC4A qualifying efforts this season, capped by his first career throw over 18 meters, which came at Akron in mid-February. That will seed him for this event's weight throw, which will start Saturday at 3 p.m.
IC4A Triple Jump - Ademola Titcombe, So. - Titcombe was the top performing Keydet at last weekend's Big South Indoor Championships, where he recorded 24 individual points, including 10 for his win and IC4A qualifying leap in the long jump. Despite that qualification and his 60-meter time from earlier in the year, which also earned him a spot in the IC4A field, Titcombe will focus on his specialty, the triple jump. That event will start Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
DMR - Ian McGinn (Fr.), Kyle Fuller (So.), Dean Gonsalves (Fr.) and Matt Satterwhite (Sr.) - Satterwhite will anchor this team, as he comes off a weekend where he was the only Keydet besides Titcombe to score in three individual events at the Big South Championships (mile, 3K, 5K). McGinn also scored, as he opened his conference career by finishing eighth in the 5,000-meters. The DMR will take place at 2:25, and the competitors are scheduled to run in this order. That will mean McGinn will run the 1,200-meter leg, with Fuller running the 400-meters, Gonsalves taking the 800-meter portion and Satterwhite capping off the race with the 1,600-meter leg.
Following this
weekend's proceedings, any Keydets who qualify for the National
Championships will take part in that three-day event in Fayetteville,
Ark. That meet is set for March 11-13, and will conclude the 2009-10
NCAA Indoor Track season.
