Men's Track and Field/XC Announces 2010-11 Recruiting Class

LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI men's track and field and cross country has announced its 2010-11 recruiting class, according to information released by the program Friday.

The class of seven is headlined by Cabell Willis of Richmond's Collegiate School. Willis captured a pair of state championships last weekend, winning the titles in the mile and 3,200-meters with new personal best times of 4:12 and 9:18, respectively. He defeated a field that included a future Big South rival, Josh Morris of Fork Union Military Academy, who recently signed with Liberty. Willis was also a runner-up at the 2009 state championships, as well as being named All-State following the 2008 campaign.

“As we only graduated two athletes off of this year's team, Matt Satterwhite and Matt Sagar, we had specific needs to fill,” said VMI's Director of Track and Field and Cross Country, Darrin Webb. “I am happy with the class, because they will improve our team in both quality and depth. Cabell has had a great spring in both the mile and two-mile.  Add in the additional signees of Jordan White, Andy Eddleton and the others, and we will be a much improved team when next year's campaign begins.  It was very important to get commitments from these athletes in these areas, as we will graduate a very large number next spring, and it will be ideal to have these young men as part of our program as we begin on next year's recruiting class.”

White of Chesapeake is a three-time All-State and six-time All-District honoree who will join VMI next year. White holds four school records at Great Bridge and has a 15:42 personal best for a 5K, which has helped him to earn four All-Region honors during his high school career.

Eddleton of Christiansburg will also join the Keydets next season. Eddleton, a four-time All-State honoree, was the state runner-up in the indoor 3,200-meters, and holds a personal best time of 9:31 in that event. Jacob Lysher, a strong 800-meter runner who was All-State in 2008, is also a part of the incoming class. Lysher was All-Region in the 500 and 1,000-meter runs in 2009, and captured that honor again in the 1,000 this season.

Alex Burton, Kyle Corwin, Hayden Hodges and Michael McDonald round out the incoming Keydets, with full capsules on each located in the document linked above.

Edit 5/24 - Carson Hogge is also a member of the 2010-11 signing class, and his information appears in the attached document.
