McNaney, Obuon Earn Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Liberty's Danielle McNaney (Gardner, Kan.) and VMI's Paulvince Obuon (Kisumo, Kenya/Chianda) were named New Balance Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week by the Big South Conference on Tuesday.

McNaney won the pentathlon at the Liberty Kickoff, the first event hosted at LU's new indoor track facility. She accumulated 3731 points in the competition, 632 points more than the next competitor. Her score also met the NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

Obuon ran a Big South record-setting time of 6.70 in the 60-meter dash at the Penn State Open last Friday, while meeting the NCAA provisional qualifying mark. The performance gives Obuon a current ranking of seventh among Division I athletes in that event on the NCAA performance list. He is also ranked 12th at the Division I level in the 200-meter dash following his mark of 21.16, which he ran in his season debut at the Kentucky Invitational back on January 15. Both times currently rank in the top 30 in the world, as Obuon is 30th in the 60 meters and 21st in the 200 meters according to the International Association of Athletic Federations.
