Doswell pops a 2:08 800 at US Nationals

BOSTON, MA -- Only one of two preps in the entire nation competing against the nation\'s best professional adults as the USA Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Massachussetts, St. Catherine\'s junior Katie Doswell had a very excellent showing as she got pulled through into a huge personal best for 800 meters. Doswell hit a time of 2:08.86 in the 800 meter preliminaries on Saturday. The top six from the two heats on Saturday advanced to the next round as Doswell was 10th overall out of 12 runners with her time. Doswell had a previous best in the 800 meter run of 2:15.64, which she set last spring outdoors. Her time is the third fastest in the nation this season and should set herself in position to be a strong favorite if she decides to compete at one of the two national high school indoor championships held either at NSIC or NIC. A rematch with fellow Virginian Sarah Bowman would be a thriller to see as Bowman today broke the national high school record for 1000 meters with a 2:43.40 clocking at the VHSL Group AA State Meet. Doswell had beaten Bowman at the New York Armory a few weeks ago when she had ran her US #2 all-time 1000 of 2:47.21. However, Bowman was doubling back from a runner-up finish at the Millrose Games Mile the night before.
