Keydet Men Sweep Top Three Pairings at VMI Relays

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI men's cross country team swept the top three pairings Friday afternoon at the season-opening VMI Cross Country Relays, held at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington.

The race was comprised of four two-mile legs, with each runner taking two legs. A returning Andrey Dmitriev, teaming with freshman Jordan White, claimed the top spot with a combined time of 40:46, 12 seconds ahead of Ermin Mujezinovic and Marshall Dalessandro. A pair of freshmen, Andy Eddleton and Cabell Willis, were tied for third in 41:20.

With only the top two teams being scored, VMI's three points won easily. Concord finished second with 10 points, while Radford (20) and Longwood (23) rounded out the team standings.

Individually, Mujezinovic had the top effort (19:46) and was the only runner to go under 10 minutes for both of his legs of the relay. Dmitriev was second (21:17), while Willis and White were fourth and fifth, finishing in 20:22 and 20:29 respectively.

“We ran most of our top guys today, and they looked outstanding,” said VMI head coach Paul Spangler. “Jordan White, Andrey Dmitriev and Ermin Mujezinovic all turned in good performances. I thought everybody did a great job, and when we add Felix Kitur to the mix, we'll be even better.”

Other Keydets to compete included Hayden Hodges and Ian McGinn, who teamed up to finish eighth (43:01), Frank Van Valkenburg and Will Thompson (10th, 43:42) and Kyle Corwin and Alex Burton (15th, 45:03).

VMI men's cross country will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 25 as the Keydets travel to Blacksburg, Va. to take part in the Big South Preview meet, which will be hosted by Radford.
