Spyridon Jullien Earns ACC Performer of the Week Honors

Jullien is honored for breaking several records this past weekend

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Virginia Tech\'s Spyridon Jullien earned Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Track & Field Performer of the Week honors along with Clemson\'s Ron Richards on the men\'s side. The Tigers\' Gisele Oliveira was honored on the women\'s side.

Jullien captured the men\'s hammer throw competition at the Clemson Invitational this past weekend with his record-breaking throw of 238\'5\" (72.68m). The junior from Athens, Greece broke his own school and ACC record set just last week when he threw for a mark of 228\'9\" (69.72m) at the Charlotte Invitational. Jullien\'s throw at Clemson also shattered the Tigers\' Rock Norman Track & Field Complex record by more than 17 feet. To date, he remains the top men\'s hammer throw athlete in the nation according to the NCAA Division I performance list compiled by Tournament Specialists, Inc.

Richards tied his personal-best time in the 100m dash winning the event at the Clemson Invitational in a time of 10.24. His time currently sits as the second fastest in the conference and fourth in the nation. In the 200m dash, the senior from Alexandria, Va. posted another career-best, clocking a regional qualifying time of 20.64 to finish first. His time in the 200m is the fastest recorded in the nation this season. Richards also ran a leg in the 4x100m relay that finished in a time of 40.37, meeting NCAA regional qualifying standards.

Oliveira posted a pair of top two finishes at the Clemson Invitational this past weekend. Oliveira claimed the women\'s triple jump event with a nation leading, personal best and regional qualifying mark of 45\' 9\" (13.94m). The senior from Porto Alegre, Brazil then placed second in the long jump as she established her second regional standard mark of the weekend with a jump of 20\' 3\" (6.17m). Her mark in the long jump currently sits second in the conference.
