Men's XC Finishes Year at Regionals

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The VMI men's cross country team finished its 2010 season Saturday, placing 19th at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships, held in Louisville, Ky.

The Keydets' 19th-place finish put them at the #3 Big South team, behind Liberty (8th) and High Point (12th). William & Mary captured the overall title, with Duke finishing second and N.C. State placing third. The Keydets did finish ahead of Clemson (20th) and Kentucky (21st).

“This was certainly not the result we had hoped for today,” said VMI head coach Paul Spangler. “We believe, however, that with our combination of youth and now, experience, we will continue to improve and be a factor for years to come.”

Felix Kitur led the Keydets, finishing 45th with a time of 31:57, while sophomore Ian McGinn made a climb up the VMI charts, finishing as the Keydets' #2 runner in 87th place. McGinn's time of 32:53 was nearly a full minute ahead of Andrey Dmitriev, who finished in 133rd place (33:43), just ahead of freshman Cabell Willis in 141st.

Willis clocked in at 33:54, while Ermin Mujezinovic wrapped up his VMI cross country career with a 33:56 time, placing 146th. Marshall Dalessandro (158th, 34:15) and Jordan White (167th, 34:29) concluded the VMI lineup for the season finale. Liberty's Sam Chelanga captured the overall title.
