Lambert named CAA co-athlete of the year

RICHMOND, Va. -- Virginia Commonwealth University men's track and field standout Davion Lambert (Richmond, Va./Varina) has been chosen as the CAA's Co-Male Athlete of the Year by a vote of the league's head coaches. Lambert shares the conference's prestigious honor with George Mason's Marc Kellman.

Lambert, a local Richmond product, became the first VCU male track and field athlete to qualify for the NCAA Track and Field Championship in two events – the long jump and the high jump. He earned the spots in the national meet after placing fourth in the long jump (24-10.5) at the NCAA East Regional and fifth in the high jump with a school-record leap of 6-11. At the CAA Championship, Lambert helped lead the Rams to a second-place team finish after capturing both the long jump (24-5) and the high jump (6-10). Along with the high jump record outdoors, Lambert also holds VCU's triple jump record indoors.

This past season, VCU claimed its second-consecutive second place at the CAA Championships. The Rams claimed a total of three individual titles on their way to a total of 172 points.
