    In their final meet of the year of 2004, Thomas Dale\'s Dennis Boone, St. Catherine\'s Katie Doswell, and Hermitage\'s Queen Harrison made sure they closed out the year strong as each individual won two individuals events at the Green Dragon Clinic meet held at the Arthur Ashe Center over the break for the holidays.

  • McCorory runs US #2 All-Time 300 at Armory

    At the 51st annual Bishop Loughlin Games held at the New York Armory, Bethel junior Francena McCorory ran the second fastest U.S. high school prep time ever for 300 meters with her 37.60 clocking to win the event. McCorory\'s previous personal best in the event was her state meet record breaking 38.23 clocking at last year\'s Group AAA state title victory. McCorory will certainly have ample opportunities to go after the national record as the season is very young.

  • Dewey earns Foot Locker All-American accolades

    Hayfield senior Melissa Dewey earned All-American honors by finishing 13th overall at the 2004 Foot Locker Nationals race held at Balboa Park in San Diego, California. Dewey finished with a time of 18:23 on the 5K course and was the second highest finisher from the South region after finishing fourth at the Foot Locker South Regional race. Fellow Virginia Aurora Scott finished 28 seconds behind Dewey in 26th place. The Western Branch freshmen was the third finishing freshmen of five total in the race. The race was won by junior Aislinn Ryan of New York in a time of 17:31.

  • Richmond Track and Field Inks Hess In Early Signing Period

    University of Richmond Director of Track and Field, Lori Taylor, announced the signing of Carly Hess who will join the Spiders in the 2005-06 season. The senior at Warwick High School in Lititz, Pa., has excelled in the short spints and long jump events throughout her prep career. She recorded personal bests in the long jump of 12.2 (Solanco Invitational) and 18-05.75 (PIAA State Championships) last season. The All-State long jumper enters her senior campaign as one of the premiere jumpers in the state of Pennsylvania.

  • Hokies Break Four School Indoor Records and Qualify Four to NCAA\'s

    The Virginia Tech track & field teams began the 2004-05 indoor season with four Hokies breaking school records and four athletes qualifying for the NCAA Championships at the Clemson Opener on Friday and the VMI Invitational today. At the Clemson Opener, Spyridon Jullien (Jr., Athens, Greece) won the men\'s weight throw competition with an NCAA automatic mark of 71\'11\". He also broke his own school record and set a new personal best and Clemson indoor track & field facility record in the throw.

  • Mayo Wins Triple Jump in ECAC Qualifying Performance at Bucknell

    James Madion sophomore Adrienne Mayo (Reston, Va./South Lakes) won the triple jump and qualified for postseason competition at the Bison Opener track and field meet held at Bucknell Saturday. Mayo\'s winning jump of 38 feet, 7 1/2 inches, qualified her to compete in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships in Boston in March.

    The Richmond track and field squad began its 2004-05 season at the CNU Lid Lifter Invitational Saturday afternoon in Newport News, Va. The Spider women\'s squad garnered a total of six Top-6 finishes in four events including three among the Top-6 in the weight throw.

    Virginia Tech's track & field teams begin the 2004-05 indoor season at the Clemson Opener on Friday, Dec. 3. The meet will be held at the Clemson indoor track & field complex and is slated to begin at 1 p.m. with the women's weight throw and men's 3000m run, and end with the women's 4x400m relay at 8:50 p.m.
