Lady Warriors and Black Knights in AA driverseat
After destroying the competition at their regional meet, there is no question that the Western Albemarle girls and Charlottesville boys are favored to win the state team championships at this weekend\'s VHSL Group AA State Indoor Track Meet. The meet will be held Saturday at Virginia Tech\'s Rector Fieldhouse in Blacksburg. The Western Albemarle girls are aiming to win their second consecutive indoor state title, while the Charlottesville boys are looking to improve upon their runner-up finish at last year\'s meet.
Four meet records shattered at Northwest Region Meet
Held on one of the best indoor track facilities in the Mid-Atlantic Region in the Prince George County's Sports and Learning Complex, four meet record breaking performances were found in this year's Northwest Region Meet.
Men Finish Third, Women Tied for Fifth at the Big South Indoor Track and Field Championships
Radford University's track and field squad competed this weekend in the 2004 Big South Conference Indoor Championships. The men took third place and the women tied for fifth with Charleston Southern University.
Cavaliers Compete at ACC Track and Field Championships
Virginia's McGavock Dunbar earned a second consecutive All-ACC designation with his third place finish in the 800m today, running a 1:53.90, just .01 out of second place. He then ran the anchor leg of the 1600-meter relay team , helping the Cavaliers to a second-place finish in a season-best time of 3:15.70. Overall, the Hoos finished sixth with 35 points.
Virginia Tech's Men Finish Fifth, Women 12th at the BIG EAST Championships
The Virginia Tech men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up their final BIG EAST Indoor Championships with a fifth place finish for the men and a 12th place performance from the women. The men ended up with 57 points while the women scored 22 points. Connecticut won the men's competition with 160 while Miami successfully defended their women's title with 170 points.
Woodberry Forest dethrones FUMA in Prep Leagues
The Prep League and LIS Championships held at Fork Union's Estes Athletic Center saw two of the most competitive team battles in recent history of the two meets. The St. Catherine's (170 pts) girls were able to hold off a challenge from Norfolk Academy (164 pts). Meanwhile, the Woodberry Forest boys went into Fork Union's house, the Estes Athletic Center, and took away the defending champs' team title as they won the Prep League Championships decisively with their 131.5.
Black Knights and Lady Warriors romp Region II
Following their victories at the Region II Meet, the Charlottesville boys and Western Albemarle girls have situated themselves as two strong favorites to win the team titles at the AA State Meet, which will be held on February 28th at Virginia Tech's Rector Fieldhouse in Blacksburg, Virginia. The Black Knights won the boys' team title with a combined team total of 156 to place themselves 110 points ahead of second place Turner Ashby, while the Lady Warriors took the girls' regional crown by nearly 30 points as they amassed 120 points.
