Yvette Lewis was one of the state's best and most versatile high school track & field athletes this past decade. No female individual scored as many points as Lewis did in her junior and senior year at Denbigh and Menchville high schools in state competition including winning the AAA state indoor crown by herself for Menchville with 48 points individually. In the 2003 AAA State Indoor Championships, Lewis won the 55 meter hurdles and triple jump to add to her runner-up finishes in the long jump, high jump, 55 meter dash and a fourth place finish in the 300. In her high school career, Lewis won a total of 2 national titles and 6 state titles.
Lewis stayed local for college and competed at Hampton University in which she won NCAA national titles in the triple jump in both indoor and outdoor. She has been knocking on the door of representing the US in IAAF World Championships and Olympic Games the past few years with high finishes just off qualifying at the USATF Championships while competing professionally for Nike.
