  • New High Caliber Track Meet Announced

    MileStat.com creator Brandon Miles announced today plans to host a high-caliber post-season high school track meet to be held at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond, Virginia on Saturday, June 10th and Sunday, June 11th. The meet lies on the June weekend in between the Virginia public schools\' outdoor track state meets and the Nike Outdoor Nationals. Meet promoter and director Brandon Miles is hoping to gather many of Virginia\'s top track and field athletes for the post-season invitational as well as bring in talent outside of the state. The event called the MileStat.com Elite Track Gala will be a meet that serves several different purposes for high school track athletes and others. (This USATF sanctioned meet is open for WV athletes).

  • Raynell Hagberg Earns A-Sun Honor

    Florida Atlantic University's Raynell Hagberg was named Atlantic Sun Women's Cross-Country Runner-of-the-Week by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. Hagberg receives the honor for the third time in her career and the first time this season after helping the women's team finish third overall at the Disney World Classic.

Brentsville's Nick Gehlsen has moved ahead of Christiansburg's John Horst for the top spot among AA boys. Lake Braddock moves ahead of Western Albemarle as the top ranked girls team in the state. And for the first time ever, the private school rankings are 5 teams and 15 individuals deep.

  • Kecoughtan HS runner killed by stray bullet

    Tragedy hits the Virginia high school track community after the death of a runner late Friday night in Norfolk. Cameron Reed of the Kecoughtan High School boys track team was murdered at an IHOP in Norfolk on late Friday night. He was hit by a stray bullet that was ignited by a fight across the street from the IHOP. Reed had personal bests of 51 for 400 meters, 1:09 for 500 meters, and 2:01 in the 800 meter run.

    Keira Carlstrom, a 2002 graduate of Oakton High School, and currently a sophomore at American University in Washington, D.C., was featured in a recent article on fast-women.com. Carlstrom is coming off an oustanding sophomore season of cross country where she earned NCAA All-American honors with a 16th place finish at the NCAA Division I National Cross Country Championships.

  • NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships Recap

    The William & Mary men and Virginia men had strong showings at the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships held at Lake Kristi with third (94 pts) and fourth places finishes (95 pts) as they were separated by a mere one point difference. The William & Mary women were the top finishing Virginia school with their fifth place finish (165 pts), while the Virginia Tech ladies finished a surprisingly strong sixth place (179 pts). Both squads were led by an NCAA Nationals individual qualifier each with Tech's Marlies Overbeeke (5th, 20:20) and William & Mary's Ali Henderson (7th, 20:23).

  • Virginia State Open Team Qualifiers

    The following teams have received bids to The State Open to be held next Saturday at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville, Virginia. A committee of coaches from all levels of classification gathered today at the Ragged Mountain Running Shop in Charlottesville to make the selections of the "at large" bids. The decision was made to extend the number of "at large" bids to 10 teams instead of the previously agreed upon number of 6. State champions in each classification already had earned automatic bids.   • Virginia State Open Individual Qualifiers

    The following individuals are automatic qualifiers for the first annual Virginia State Open, which is to be held next Saturday at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville, Virginia. This is the first time that Virginia will hold a meet to really determine the fastest high school cross country runners and best cross country teams in the state! The girls\' race starts at 11:30 and the boys\' race at noon. The individual qualifiers include the top 50 fastest times from the public school state meet (held at Great Meadows on November 8th) and the top 20 finishers from the private school championships (held at Woodberry Forest on October 31st).

    Hidden Valley senior Jennifer Beury made an amazing comeback race from a stress fracture injury that has forced her to sit out almost the entire cross country season. Beury made her return at the River Ridge District Meet against the #2 ranked runner in the state and #1 ranked runner in AA, Kirsten Hagen of Christiansburg. The two battled it out for the 5K distance at Greenhill Park, but it was Beury who came out on top in this colossal battle with a winning time of 18:25 over Hagen's 18:32. No race rust here as it was a personal best 5K time for the UVA bound Beury.

    Today was a good day to be a member of the CNU men's and women's cross country teams as both teams came away with team titles at the Mason-Dixon Conference Championships held in Williamsburg. Also, CNU senior Aimee Gibbs and freshmen Brandon Miles earned individual conference titles.
