The Colonial Athletic Association announced today that sophomore Christo Landry (Falls Church, VA) was named Runner of the Week for the week of September 27. Landry paced the Tribe over the weekend at the Great American Festival, placing third in the Nike Race of Champions in 24:12. The team won the race by twelve points over the University of Virginia.

William and Mary moved up three spots to No. 16 in the MONDO National Cross Country Poll this week despite having a bye-week from competition last weekend. This is the highest position for the team since being ranked 15th in the 2003 Preseason Poll. In the regional poll, the Tribe lost ground and slipped to No. 2 behind N.C. State.

Despite a herculean effort by the distance corps, William and Mary men\'s track and field could not hold onto its day one lead and finished fourth at the CAA Championship. With nearly the entire throwing corps redshirting the outdoor season, the Tribe spotted too many points to its opponents and ended the Championship in fourth with 132 points. UNC-Wilmington won the title with 218.50 points, ahead of second-place Virginia Commonwealth (172) and George Mason (140). Three-time All-American Ed Moran (Dayton, NJ) [5,000m], senior Adam Otstot (Richmond, VA) [3,000m steeplechase] and senior Pat Comstock (Portsmouth, VA) [10,000m] all won individual titles on Friday evening as Otstot and Moran earned qualifications to the NCAA Regional meet while Comstock set a CAA meet record with his winning time of 30:44.22.

The top-two teams from the 6,000m race, held on the Lake Kristi Course, will earn automatic berths to the NCAA Championship. 13 at-large bids will also be rewarded after all the Regional meets are completed and a team's finish at its Regional is crucial in securing an at-large bid. The Southeast Region is one of the deepest and most competitive in the nation and traditionally sends at least two at-large selections to the Championship. The Southeast currently boasts four teams ranked in the latest FinishLynx National poll: No. 5 Duke, No. 8 North Carolina, No. 10 N. C. State and No. 21 Wake Forest.
