Virginia's biggest stars and teams have all seemed like they want to open up the season together. This big opener is of course being held where the regular season will end, at Pole Green Park. Even though they will not racing the MileStat upper course, they will still have some strong chances at breaking the hill course record with perfect weather in the forecast. Check out the following pages to see the depth of talent both on the team and individual front all set to compete this weekend.
From Roanoke to Newport News and even to Pennsylvania the big teams and individuals from Virginia will all be in action this weekend. Though we've had a couple weeks of the season it all really, like really starts this weekend. We at MileStat will be all over the state with updates and coverage and have this preview to get you ready for all the action ahead.
The 2017 installment of this great meet will feature multiple state champions and NXN qualified teams. Be ready for an epic showdown and some fast times in Salem. Check out all the virtual meet rankings and more on the following pages.
University of New Mexico frosh Weini Kelati is at it again, this time in the NCAA ranks. The 2015 Foot Locker National Champion hailing from Heritage (Leesburg) is not new to the spotlight or big freshman years as this almost repeats her meteoric rise from 2014.

Virginia may have yet another young star from central Virginia. Emily Smeds, who will be a freshman at Fluvanna County next week, is already on our radar thanks to a stellar second leg from her in the Ragged Mt Cup relay race. On that leg she brought her team from third up to first ahead of Western and Albemarle with her 12:07 two mile split.
Though the highlight of the regular season is the MileStat/Third Battle weekend, September is still where all the action really happens. This year that is especially true with a rare five weekends this month. Here are the meets each weekend that we are excited for and currently planning on covering!
Virginia has definitely had some dynasties in cross country. We've had teams nearly sweep a decade's worth of XC team titles and we've had quite a few teams make NXN and be untouchable on the state level. Out of all those teams on the guys' side we've only ever had one team to put six guys under 16:00 in a single year and that was the 2012 Chantilly team.
This holiday weekend quite a few athletes and over 30 teams will be hitting the hills for what should be an exciting meet both individually and on the team front. On the following pages are virtual meets for both individuals and teams on the boys and girls side. Check them out and see we aren't lying about how close these races will be.
With just one week of XC now in the books we can start to look back at some of the awesome coverage and races we've already had. Here is our pick, for great reasons, the kick and race of the week.

Virginia has a long history of great runners and great families of runners. Out of all the families though there have been none that have swept the XC state titles in a single year. This year could change that with both the Northcutts and Morris' looking to win the 4A and 6A individual titles respectively.
The season is off and running and even just after a weekend the frosh athletes are putting on a show. On the following pages are the top 200 rankings for both the freshmen girls and freshmen boys in the state. Check them all out below.
You've seen the boys now here are the girls ranked inside the top 500 for 5K thru the first week of the cross country season.
