Getting a lot of questions about the developmental 1600 and 200 races at the meet next weekend from coaches, in particular how to enter. It seems some coaches when they initially entered the meet did not check the developmental division and selected only the high school division so the developmental events are not available when they look at the entries page to select events to enter athletes into.
Its a pretty easy way to correct this initial mistake. On the registration page which shows a list of your current entries, there is a Divisions Entered header on the right hand side of the page and below that is an Edit Divisions Entered link. Click on that link and it will take you to that page. On that people it will show that you have not entered in the Developmental race. Click on the Enter link next to each of the Male and Female division of Developmental and when you go back to the page with all the available events to enter, the Developmental 1600s and 200s will show and be available to enter.
Reminder that the developmental race is intended for athletes who cannot qualify or barely meet the cut-offs of Saturday's varsity level events. This can be for athletes in all grades (not just reserved to underclassmen). For the 8th & 9th graders it does not matter how fast they are, they can run in this event.
Recommended times/ability level of 10th, 11th, 12th graders for developmental division.
Boys 1600 - 4:55 or slower
Girls 1600 - 6:00 or slower
Boys 200 - 24.00 or slower
Girls 200 - 28.50 or slower
Some of you may need to move some of your athletes which you have currently entered in the elite high school 1600 or 200 who have slower times than the cut-off for that division into the developmental division of that event. Keep in mind the standards for Saturday's 1600 and 200 below. Those entries will be rejected if they do not have a verified time faster than the below standard for Saturday's race and I'm not going to move them to developmental for you. You as the coach need to do that in the entry system before the deadline. So again if you have an athlete entered with a time slower than the standards below in Saturday's division currently, you should move them now to Friday's developmental division of the event in the entry system.
Girls 1600 Meter Run - 6:15.00
Boys 1600 Meter Run - 5:05.00
Girls 200 Meter Dash - 29.50
Boys 200 Meter Dash - 25.00
I'd encourage coaches to consider anyone also moving entries for athletes maybe just inside the cut-off for Saturday's events and move them to the developmental division to make Saturday's portion of the meet more spread out into Friday with more entrants in the Friday races. It will also give your athlete a better shot at a medal and placing in developmental. So thats 1600 runners in that 4:50-5:05 range for boys, 6:00-6:15 range for girls and 200 sprinters in that 28.50-29.50 for girls, 24.00-25.00 range for boys.
Athletes who run in the developmental division can also run in the varsity division of another event & relay other than than the developmental event they competed in (so someone can't run in the developmental 200 on Friday and varsity 200 on Saturday). So for example, an athlete might qualify to run the 800 in Saturday's portion of the meet, but not the 1600 so runs the developmental 1600 on Friday and then runs the elite 800 on Saturday.
Let me know if you have anymore questions about the developmental division. We are going to look to expand this division in future meets, but also might mean some of the elite division standards will get tougher as well.
