The girls distance races for the 2012 AAA State Meet will feature many runners already in the Virginia High School top ten all-time best performances list.

Top among these races is the girls 800.

The girls 800 will be a rematch of the sizzling Southern Track Classic race. It will feature three of the fastest 800 runners in Virginia High School History.

Kimberley Ficenec of Mountain View #2
    Megan Moye of Cosby #3
Sarah Jane Underwood of West Potomac #10

They will be chasing the record set by #7 Myah Hicks of Thomas Edison at 2:08.99 last year.

The 2000 AAA State Meet at Sportsbackers Stadium did have one of the fastest state meet 800's in history.

    1 Nikeya Green Hayfield *2:09.30
2 Leslie Treherne Western Branch 2:09.38
    3 Kelley Otstott Thomas Jefferson - A 2:11.38
    4 Nicole Cook Petersburg 2:12.94

Even Faster was the National Scholastic Championships two weeks later

    3 Nikeya Green 2:07.92
    5 Kelley Otstott 2:08.93
    7 Elizabeth Bayne (Kecoughtan) 2:10.37
    8 Nicole Cook 2:11.38

We have the potential in this year's race, with Ficenec, Moye, Underwood, and Evans to see performances to outdo both of these previous meets.

It's interesting to see that nearly all of the 1600 and 3200m times are converted times from 1 mile and 2 mile races. Since those events aren't run as frequently, but are run at prestigious meets, it really shows how much competition can affect times.

This race will also feature Sophie Chase (2013) 2:10.81, Skylar Evans (2012) 2:11.82, Ellison Grove (2014)2:12.36 and Macey Schweikert (2014)2:13.10. This should be a very interesting race and a fun one to watch!!!!

Allidoisrun you are correct in that Sophie Chase is not running the 800. I just wanted to give credit where credit is due.

Historian - There was a 2:06 run by Alisa Harvey - at an international Junior Championships in 1983 in Sherbrooke, Canada. The Girls U.S. Junior National Team competed against Canada. The Boys competed against Canada and Italy. I can't find the results, but I was there!

Officially it was 2:06.33. Sorry I missed it.

The most impressive thing is that you and John Hinton (see boys top ten) are still running times close to your high school top ten performances 30 years later.

If I remember correctly you and Shola Lynch were on the US Junior team chasing the junior record set by Kim Gallagher at 2:00.07 in '82.

Wasn't Kevin McGorty or Rob Muzzio in the multis that year?

Well the 800 lived up to the hype with Megan Moye winning it with a time of 2:09.65, Kimberley Ficenec 2:10.73, Ellison Grove 2:10.74, and Sarah Jane Underwood 2:10.85.
Congratulations to all of the girls that competed in the meet.
