US #1 Girls 4x800 - Westfield VA 9:22.90 Photo by John HerzogA total of seven US top ten performances were produced in day one event on Friday at the CNU Showcase in Newport News, Virginia led by a US #1 from the Westfield VA girls in the 4x800 meter relay of 9:22.90. Westfield had a 2:15 anchor leg split from Tasia Potasinski to pull away from Midlothian, who finished with a US #4 time of 9:33.03. The Landstown girls ran a US #1 on a flat track and US #3 overall in the 4x200 meter relay as their top legs of Cierra McGee and Marlena Wesh were able to pull their team ahead after a stiff challenge from Western Branch.The Western Branch girls had a very successful first day at CNU as Jessie Gaines clocked in at a US #4 performance of 7.06 in the 55 meter dash finals, while Ermesha Fair leaped to a US #3 mark of 18-7.The field events were rockin' at the Freeman Center as the fast section of the boys 4x800 meter relay had to take a backseat to the lone competitors left in the boys high jump and girls pole vault with Chris Copeland of Lakeland having three close misses at 6'10" in the high jump after clearing 6'6" and 6'8" on his first attempts, while Atlee junior Emma Dejarnette soared to her first clearance ever of 12 feet as she now ranks just outside of the top ten in the event currently. 14 state bests posted at CNU Showcase MileSplit Staff Jan 7, 2006

No suprise with the amount of competiton and quality of track found at the Freeman Center\'s Vince Brown Track for the CNU Showcase that many of the state\'s best season times were turned in at the two day event in Newport News. In all, 14 state best peformances were recorded at the meet.

CNU Showcase Preview MileSplit Staff Jan 4, 2006

Christopher Newport University will host its second high school invitational of the season this weekend with the CNU Showcase. The two day meet held Friday and Saturday, January 7th and 8th at the Freeman Center\'s Vince Brown Track will be the start of several competitive meets after winter break with the state\'s best athletes going head to head. This weekend\'s meet will feature three of the state\'s biggest stars in Michael Morrison, Francena McCorory, and Angela Jenkins.

Schedule Change for the CNU Showcase MileSplit Staff Jan 2, 2006

The finals of the 55 hurdles and the 55 sprint will be run following the 4 x 800 relay on Friday night, January 6,2006. The first running event on Saturday will be the 4 x 200 relays at 9 am. There will be no 30 minute break on Saturday, January 7, 2006. There will be coaches meeting at 3:15 PM on Friday, January 6, 2006 and again at 8 am on January 7,2006. These meetings will take place at the start line area of the 55.
