Editorial: Exclusive Video Rights & Coverage of HS XC/Track Don't Mix Well Nov 13, 2013

We wanted to make you all fully aware of a trend across the country in high school state associations giving exclusive video rights for their state championships in all sports to video producing companies for live streams, on-demand post-event online videos & DVD sales. Virginia is no exception as both the VHSL and VISAA have given video rights to companies in recent years for their all of their state championship events in all sports. In some of our other MileSplit Network state sites, those webmasters and their coverage teams are limited or not allowed to provide any video coverage at their state championship meets by their state associations and exclusive video rights deals with other companies despite working long hours and traveling to many meets throughout the state and doing a lot of the heavy lifting and making life easier for the state associations, meet directors, coaches, and parents in spreading meet information and promoting their events.

Top 25 Fastest Private School Teams Nov 04, 2013

A list of the top 25 fastest private school squads in the state based on season best 5K performances in the MileStat.com database. The Bishop O'Connell girls have the longest active streaks of consecutive state cross country team titles in the state of Virginia, but are in danger of having that streak snapped this Friday at the Virginia Independent Schools State Championships by the League of Independent Schools champions St. Catherine's, who defeated them in their last encounter at the MileStat.com Invitational on October 19th. The O'Connell girls got off on a good start and building momentum for championship season and a state meet peak by winning the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title two Saturdays ago at Lake Fairfax and a tight battle is to be expected for the Division 1 state title. Both St. Catherine's and Bishop O'Connell girls match-up evenly with each having a front runner under 20 minutes and a remaining top 5 pack in the 20 minute range for 5K.
