9/22 WKND: Hot temps + Fast times + Cool finishes = One great XC weekend. Sep 23, 2007

Results needed for EverhartWhat a weekend for cross country racing in Pennsylvania.  The weather ranged from misty and cool to humid and hot, and all the competition was fierce.  At the first ever pre-States Inaugural Hershey XC Invitational Carly Seymour and Mark Dennin took home victories and the fastest times of the day, 18:17 and 16:05 respectively.  Central Cambria girls won the entire meet by a commanding margin, and the North Allegheny boys squeaked out a 1 point win in the boys combined scoring.  At the Sharpsville Invite Laren Zarger (18:06.0) and Andrew Geist (15:54.2) posted impressive wins.  Kacey Gibson runs 18:43 for 2nd in OH at the Malone College Invite.  Emmaus girls were 4th at the Bowdoin Classic in New York, site of the November 24th Nike Team Nationals qualifer. Emmaus was missing Brianna Faust, who had an appendectomy a little over a week ago.North Allegheny swept the Gold Races at the 1st Pre-States.

W&M Invite: Rinehardt, Ross, and Strehler dominate on humid day Sep 23, 2007

Johns Ross continued his breakthrough cross country season with a 15:22 win at the William & Mary Invite, while runner-up Andrew Colley (15:24) led NTN SE #3 Jamestown to a team title in front of the home crowd in Williamsburg. Thanks to Maryland, Virginia cross country fans did not get to see a great showdown between two rising stars in Tallwood's Octavia Rinehardt and Trinity's Barbara Strehler for the varsity A race. To adhere to meet sanctioning rules for the Maryland schools, Trinity's Barbara Strehler had to be bumped down to the later and lesser competitive varsity C division. Nonetheless, Rinehardt and Strehler pressed on with dominating individual wins with Rinehardt as the day's fastest in 18:33, while Strehler finished a minute and half ahead of the next finisher two hours later in the C race with a time of 18:44. It would have been great to see both go head to head as they were definitely ready to race today. After a pleasant week of training for many Virginians with cooler temperatures, the humid weather decided to reappear on Saturday for the William & Mary Invitational to affect times. However, the humidity did not stop Tallwood's Octavia Rinehardt, Potomac School's John Ross, and Trinity's Barbara Strehler from dominating individual performances. All three were relatively unknowns in comparison to some of the more well known top returning runners, but have quickly emerged this fall to be just as good as the best of them. Meanwhile, the Jamestown boys survived a self-induced scare with the inability to differentiate yellow jerseys. Note: Waiting on verification of varsity A girls team results before completing meet summary as results sent in to post online were different than corrected results at the meet in determining the team champions between Western Branch and C. Milton Wright.
