Eligibility: The age rule will be the same as that employed by the Virginia High School League; any individual who turned 19 before August 1, 2016 will not be eligible to compete. Varsity may consist of runners in grades 8th-12th grades while the JV race will be grades 6th10th.

Course: It is recommended that all coaches and runners view the animated video which shows the flow of the course (http://youtu.be/pMNuNlMcCOA). There will be marshals at all intersections, however understanding the course can help in running a faster race. The course is 5000 meters/3.1 miles with 100% grass. There are no significant hills, but the course is rolling with approximately 150m of climbing and descending throughout. Spikes are allowed. Most of the course is open with a small portion in wooded areas. Spots can become soft following rain. This venue is the current home course to Christopher Newport University Cross-country and was the site of the 2013 NCAA S/SE Regional Championships and several other NCAA and HS meets.

Scoring: All runners must display race bib number on the front-center location of a uniform top. Scoring will be in accordance with NFHS rules: A runner's numerical score corresponds to his or her finish order in a race. The top seven finishers from each team in a race will be considered for placement with the top five runners from each team used for the final score. Ties will be resolved by comparing the times of the sixth finisher.

Awards: Trophies for the top two teams in each of the Varsity divisions. Medals to the top 15 finishers in each of the Varsity races. Medals to the top 10 finishers in each of the JV races.
