COURSE:

This is a 5,000 meter course that is entirely within the bounds of scenic Randolph Park. It is not flat, but it is faster than most courses. It has a net negative elevation as the starting line is the highest elevation on the course and is about 40 feet higher than the finish. It has only a few inclines and they are mostly gradual grades with only a few sharper and shorter inclines. These are generally offset by some rather long and gradual downhill sections. Several season best and personal best times were set by runners from several teams at last year's inaugural meet.

The course is very spectator friendly. It has long views across open fields from the finish area for the beginning kilometer, the ending half kilometer, and a portion of the middle of the race. Coaches have quick and easy access to the 1 mile and 2 mile points from the starting line, from each of those points, and back to the finish. The surface is almost entirely grass or cinder gravel path except for a few road crossings.

The course consists of two loops and a two-way connector. The first loop of 1 kilometer links to the connector route to a second loop at the other end of the park. That loop ends back at the connector to take runners back to the starting point from which they repeat the first half of the opening loop before finishing on the middle of a football field.
