2018 VHSL GROUP 6 (C) GUNSTON DISTRICT

OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP


DATE AND Tuesday, May 15th & Thursday, May 17th, 2018 @ T. C. Williams High School.

LOCATION: 3330 King Street, Alexandria Virginia 22302

Parking: Parking will be a problem before 3:30 p.m. The parking garage near the Track will be available after classes let out at 3:15 p.m. Enter the garage from King Street at Kenwood Drive.

Track Opens: Tuesday, May 15, 2018 @ 2:30 p.m. / Thursday, May 17, 2018 @ 2:30 p.m.

ADMISSION: General Admission is $6.00, $4.00 students

SCORING: 10 - 8 - 6 - 4 - 2 - 1 for all events

AWARDS: Championship Plaques

Medals for 1st through 3rd place - Individual Events

Medals for 1st through 3rd place - Relays

60 patches for championship teams

ENTRIES: Each school may enter three (3) individuals in each event. If more than three (3) are entered, all entrants must have met the VHSL Group 6 GUNSTON DISTRICT standard during the current indoor season in a VHSL sanctioned meet.

ENTRY DEADLINE: Entries must be submitted to www.Milestat.com by 12:00 p.m. Sunday, May 13th , 2018.

ADVANCING FROM VHSL Class 6 Gunston District will advance the top 6 individuals and the top 3 CONFRENCE MEET: relay teams automatically plus all athletes or relay teams meeting the VHSL Class 6 Occoquan Region C Standards.

REGION ENTRY Coaches are to enter athletes advancing to the VHSL Group 6 (C) Occoquan Region by PREFORMANCE: virtue of their District meets performance with the athletes best performance of the District

for seeding purposes. Athletes advancing to the VHSL Group 6 (C) Occoquan Region by virtue of a qualifying mark must submit a proof of performance (POP) form (see VHSL website at https://www.vhsl.org/outdoor-track/ forms) or the performance must be posted on www.Milestat.com in order to be used to enter the VHSL Group 6 (C) Occoquan Region meets.

SCRATCH MEETING: There will be a coaches scratch meeting on Sunday (Mothers Day), May 13, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. in the Rotunda room at T. C. Williams. Enter T. C. Williams thru door #14 on the Chinquapin Park side of the building. Coaches please plan on providing student help for the meet. Workers are needed at each field event, hurdle set up results and finish area.

REPORTING In events run in heats or sections, all participants must report to the clerk of the course at the

FOR EVENTS: marshaling area before the first heat is run. Failure to report on time may result in a scratch.

CALL FOR First call - 15 minutes prior to the scheduled time of event.

EVENTS: Second call - 10 minutes prior to the scheduled time of event.

Third call - five minutes prior to the scheduled time of event.

NOTE: The one (1) minute rule will apply in all field events.

RULES: The 2018 National Federation Rule Book, the 2017-18 edition of the Virginia High School League Handbook and the VHSL Group 6 (C) Occoquan Region rule book

EQUIPMENT: Each school will furnish its own baton, discus, shot and vaulting pole. Blocks will be supplied for races below 400m run completely in lanes.

CONCESSIONS: The Titan Grill will operate during the meet to provide food and drink for sale.

MEET VHSL Rules 76-4-2 Participation- -In one meet a contestant may compete in any number of field events

but shall be limited to participation in any three running events except that a contestant who

competes in the 3200 meter run may compete in only one other running event. No individual

contestant may compete in more than one meet in any one day. In any meet over two days a

contestant competing in the 3200 meter run may compete in two additional running events as

long as only one of the two is contested on the same day as the 3200 meter run. If an athlete

at the conference, region or state meet is excused from an event by a certified athletic trainer

or a physician appointed by the games committee, that athlete will be eligible for any and all

other events entered unless the certified athletic trainer or physician determines that the

athlete's health would be in danger with any further participation.

DELAY of EVENTS: No event in the meet is to be held up because a participant is engaged in another event. If a

contestant is entered in a field event which conflicts in the time schedule with a track event in

which he is entered, he will make advance arrangements with the official in charge of the

field event to postpone his attempt in the trials until after the track event has been run. No

track event will be held up to accommodate a contestant likewise competing in a field event.

TRACK: 400 Meter Synthetic Surface - flats or up to 3/8" spikes may be worn. No other types of

spikes may be used. Races from the 400 Meter Dash and below will be run in lanes. Pole

vault, long, triple and high jumps have synthetic surface runways. Port-A-Pit will be used for

pole vault and high jump. Shot and discus are thrown from concrete circles.

FIELD EVENT Field events with finals will advance the top 8 to the finals. ADVANCING:

RUNNING EVENT FINALS: Will advance the 8 to the finals.

SHOT /DISCUS: All shots Discus will be weighed and certified by the Head Field Judge

HIGH JUMP & Starting height will be determined after coaches' scratch meeting by the Games. Committee POLE VAULT: Participants in the High Jump and Pole Vault athletes must report to their event with their

competition numbers but may elect to not wear their numbers when competition begins.

UNIFORMS: Participants will be required to wear team uniforms while competing. Meet numbers will be

issued to each school and are required to be worn before being permitted to compete.

In relay events each team member will wear the same color school uniform (jersey & short).

When other apparel is worn under the jersey by more than one team member that apparel

must be identical in color and unadorned if worn below the knees.

HEAT LEADERS: These will be determined by the meet director after he receives the entry lists. The meet

director will set up the heats by rule. The Trials and finals will be set up according to the

place and times run in the trials. In lane events, participants must return to the finish line and remain in their respective lanes until the judges have reached their decision as to the places.

CONTROL OF All participants will be limited to specific areas in the field house. Each coach is

THE FIELD: directed to instruct his or her squad to remain in these areas except when competing or

warming up for his or her event. All participants will be directed to warm up in a designated

area. Any athletes found out of these designated areas are subject to disqualification. No coaches will be allowed on the track and/or infield areas during competition.

DISQUALIFICATION: A competitor may be disqualified from an event if the coach, manager, attendant, or anyone

associated with the competitor's team is on the infield of the track or those areas designated only for officials and contestants actually participating or preparing for a subsequent event.

PRESENTATION Each teams is to pick up all medals after final meet results are announced.

OF TEAM AWARDS: The team trophies and patches will be presented at the conclusion of the meet.
