Region II Championships: Louisa County boys, Potomac Falls girls May 21, 2009

Louisa County boys and Potomac Falls girls claimed Region II titles on Wednesday at Louisa County High School. The Louisa County boys, 2009 indoor state champions in Group AA,  keyed off the individual performances by Tyler Jackson and Andre Hunter with Jackson sprinting to first place finishes in the 100 and 200 meter dash, while Hunter claimed an individual title in the long jump and a second place in the triple jump. Photo by Tim Hagen Christina Lee led the charge for the Potomac Falls girls as she doubled with wins in the 160 and 800 meter races as well as running a leg on the second place 4x800 meter relay. The 1600 meter race was an epic finish between three with Lee at 5:11.30, Mattie Webb of Western Albemarle in second at 5:11.46, and Julie Strange of Loudoun County in third at 5:11.76.   The Jefferson District had many of the top individual performers in the meet including great performances by event winners Ashontae Jackson of Orange County in the 400 meter dash (57.31), Precious Banks of Fluvanna County in the 300 meter hurdles (46.29), and Nicole Harding in the pole vault (10-6).   The Western Albemarle boys made an impressive sweep of the distance races. Western's James Howard-Smith ran a significant PR in the 1600 to win the 1600 with a time 4:20.78 in a battle with Josh Hardin of Potomac Falls (4:21.68). Another Potomac Falls and Western Albemarle battle materialized later in the 800 meter run between Ryan Hagen and Tyler Stutzman with two of the state's top 3 fastest times coming from the two with Stutzman as the winner at 1:53.41 and Hagen as a close runner-up in 1:53.54. Kyle Satterwhite completed the sweep for Western in the 3200 meter run in a season best time of 9:18.98.   Region II Championships Complete Results
