Pinkston (long jump), and the girls 4x8 (Lauren Pinkston, Hiruni
Wijayaratne, Mehnaz Haq, and Katie Merrill).


Other Day 1 results

Girls 55 m dash semi-finals (finals will be run next Thursday): Bri Crowell is in 3rd, Emily
Palmer 4th, and Ashley Banks 5th (all girls ran a new personal record and will automatically move
on to Regionals since they are in the top 6)
Girls 55m hurdles: Sara Valcourt 10th, Ellen Falci 11th, Angela Zappalla 13th

Girls 1000m: Jessica Wilds got 3rd in her heat and ran 10 seconds faster than her seed time.
The top seeded section will run next week

Girls 1600m: Hiruni Wijayaratne ran an amazing race with two other girls eventually finishing 3rd
with a time of 5:06.93 (1st place 5:06.04, 2nd place 5:06.51)
And Freshman Carolyn Hennessey got 7th running a 7 second PR of 5:21.24 (just missing
regionals but not only one place, but one second)

Girls High Jump: Sophomore Danielle Theberge 2nd

Girls Long Jump: Haley Blum 10th

Girls Shot Put: Britney Tisdale 8th, Emily Jones, 11th, Elizabeth Newcomer 16th

Boys 55m semi-finals: Samson Okai currently 5th running a new PR of 6.83, Ryan Aitken
finished 15th and Jason Webster finished 17th

Boys 1000m: Twins Michael and David Kloosterboer finished 5th and 6th in the slow heat

Boys 1600m: Ivan Botov ran an 11 second PR and Alex Anthony ran a 17 second PR

Boys 55m Hurdles: Andrew Obcemea is 3rd going into finals next week and Sancho Sequeira
finished 13th

Boys Long Jump: Russell Green 1st, Ryan Aitken 5th, Andrew Obcemea 6th

Herndon Girls Northern Region Champions !!!!

The Lady Hornets defeated their closest rival Lake Braddock at Regionals on Nov 1, by the score of 88 to 98. This was the third region title in six years for the girls team. The girls were led by All-Region runners, Hiruni Wijayaratne (2nd place) and Carly Kulik (14th place - 9th grade). Also scoring for Herndon were Lauren Pinkston , Carolyn Hennessey (9th grade), Laura Ortel , Mehnaz Haq and Joan O'Bryan . Next Saturday, November 10th, the girls will compete in the Virginia State Championships at Great Meadows. Please congratulate the girls and coaches, Pete Sherry and Lindsey Welch! Way to go!

HHS Sports Update (9-10)

Coach Pete Sherry's girls cross country team captures second place at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Saturday in Blacksburg. Junior Hiruni Wijayaratne was the girls individual champion. The boys race was canceled due to extreme heat.
