Day Eight

Ryann Krais ended her four-event, 13-race-jump-throw, eight-day odyssey with a 6th place finish in the finals of the Intermediate Girls 400, running 56.57, just under two seconds off her PR set in late June at the AAU Region II Championships. The finish gives her three firsts (Heptathlon in US sophomore record), 100 Hurdles, 400 Hurdles), and the 6th. Central Bucks South's Ije Iheoma was 2nd in the race, going 55.24. In other 400 finals, Reggie Carter, a Bensalem grad, was 5th in the Young Men's race in 48.53 in the AM, and then 6th in the 20 finals in 21.84.. In the morning 3000's, LaSalle's Philip Wood was 2nd in a nice time of 9:01.27 in the Intermediate Boys race. In the Youth Boys race, Reece Ayers of Tunkhannock was 2nd in 9:41.17. In the Sub-Youth 3000, a Havertown Middle Schooler, Sophia Meehan, set an AAU record in the 3000 Meter Run, going 10:42.77. She runs for the Dashers Track Club. In the Youth Girls 100 Finals, Shanae Bailey was 2nd in 12.54, and then followed that up in the afternoon with a 2nd place 24.97 in the 200. But Bailey did get a title, coming back to help her Mt. Airy Track Club run 3:53.46. The Intermediate Boys 4x400 was also won by Mt. Airy Track Club, running 3:20.46. Schuylkill Valley's Devan Coon was 8th in the Intermediate Girls 200, going 25.71. Both 2nds were to rising star English Gardner of New Jersey. The Mt. Airy Track Club took 5th in the Youth Girls 4x100 in 49.40 and 6th in the Intermediate Boys 4x100 in 43.12.

Day Seven

After two days of the Heptathlon, and wins in the 100 Hurdles and 400 Hurdles, Ryann Krais removed all barriers and bars and implements to concentrate on the single lap. She moves on to the final by just .03 of a second, running 56.83 for 2nd in her heat. Council Rock South's Ije Iheoma will join her in the finals of the Intermediate Girls 400 having won her heat in 56.27. Bensalem grad Reggie Carter advanced to the Young Men's 400 finals with his 47.94. The Cambria Track Club took 2nd in the Youth Girls 4x800 in 9:52.61.

Ryann Krais added her third national title of the meet, running 14.03, a wind-legal PR, to take the Intermediate Girls 100 Hurdles. Jermaine Lowery of Academy Park, ran14.88 to take 4th in the Intermediate Boys 110 Hurdles Finals. In other finals, Hatboro-Horsham's Joe Berry took 2nd in the Young Men's Pole Vault, clearing 14-06; and LaSalle's Philip Wood captured 3rd in the Intermediate Boys 1500 in 4:08.47. Shanae Bailey advanced to the 200 Finals, going 24.25. Schuylkill Valley's Devan Coon moved in in the Intermediate Girls 200, going 24.77. And Bensalem's Reggie Carter ran 21.46 to advance in the Young Men's 200 Semis. In the 4x400, the Mt. AIry TC advanced in Youth Girls in 3:57.17 and in the Intermediate Boys in 3:22.98.

With the Heptathlon out of the way, and a qualifier in the books for the 400 Hurdles, Methacton's Ryann Krais moved on to the shorter stuff in the Intermediate Girls competition, posting a 14.35 100 Hurdles, the fastest in her group. In the Youth Girls 200, Shanae Bailey ran 24.31 to advance. In the Intermediate Girls 200, Devan Coon of Schuylkill Valley, ran 24.84 to advance. Academy Park's Jermaine Lowery ran 14.62 in the 110 Hurdles to advance for the Intermediate Boys. And Bensalem grad Reggie Carter posted a 21.43 to advance to the finals of the Young Men's 200.

Ryann Krais continued her drive to more Intermediate Girls national titles, posting the top prelims time in the 400 Hurdles of 1:01.17. Gwynedd-Mercy's Taylor Bumpus advanced in the Intermediate Girls 800 with a 2:14.93, and will be joined by Council Rock South's Ije Iheoma with her 2:15.99. In Intermediate Boys competition, Jermaine Lowery of Academy Park posted a 56.22 to advance in the 400 Hurdles. Coatesville's Tierra Flowers moved on in the Young Women's 100 with a 12.36.

Days One & Two

At theAAU Junior Olympics in Norfolk, Virginia, Ryan Krais upped her US Sophomore Class Record in the Heptathlon by taking the Intermediate Girls two-day, seven-event competition with 5142 points. She started on Day One with a 14.44 win in the 100 Hurdles, cleared 5-03.75 in the High Jump, setting a PR of 32-09.50 in the Shot Put, and posted the top 200 in 24.61, her 2nd best 200 ever. On Day Two, she started with a Long Jump of 17-03.25, then launched a Javelin PR by 5'2", throwing 106-11 for 1st, and then closed with a huge PR in the 800, improving 3.26 seconds in 2:17.59.

AAU Champs Preview


Rising junior Ryann Krais, Methacton, will compete in the Intermediate Girls Heptathlon on Saturday and Sunday, and then in as many as four individual events; the Long Jump, 100 Hurdles, 400 Dash, and 400 Hurdles; the remainder of the week.



Keystone Games, Camp Hill, PA, July 28-30

In the Boys 17-18, Whitehall rising senior Andrew Fahringer threw 210-07, a US#3 mark in the Javelin, and also captured the Discus with a toss of 157-04. In the Girls 15-16, Central Dauphin's Anna Muzio won the Shot Put, going 36-11, along with the Hammer Throw (79-00), and was 2nd in the Discus (102-05), and 5th in the Javelin (74-03). Central Dauphin East's Marissa McDonald won the 15-16 Long Jump with a leap of 16-09.75, and took 1st as well in the 100(12.86) and the 200 (26.95). In the Girls 17-18, Bishop Shanahan's Caitlin Fairbairn cleared 12-00 to win the Pole Vault. North Schuylkill's Lindsey Guldin won the Shot Put, throwing 39-06, and Discus, going 127-08, and was 3rd in the Javelin (124-03) behind Northampton's Laura Rycek (135-02) and Eisenhower's Elisha Jones (134-00).

Russell Blunt East Coast Invitational

Rising Chester junior Shaniel Chambers continued her strong 2006 outdoor campaign with a win and a runner-up in the Intermediate Girls' 800 and 400, respectively. Her 2:14.74 took the title and she was 2nd in the one-lapper in 56.75. Coatesville grad Kellyn Wright also medaled twice, winning the Young Women's 1500 in 4:52.69, and taking 2nd in the 800 in 2:18.84. In the Intermediate Boys' competition, rising junior Austin Perron of Engineering & Science was the runner-up in the 800 in 1:57.86 and took 4th in the 400, going 50.59.
