T.C. Williams frosh Noah Lyles makes World Youth team for U.S.

T.C. Williams freshmen Noah Lyles qualified to compete on the USATF World Youth championship team headed to Ukraine from July 10th-14th after finishing 3rd in the men's 200 at the USATF World Youth Trials in Illinois this past week with a time of 21.62.

Lyles and his brother Josephus had a remarkable and historic freshmen season of outdoor track running unheard of times for 9th graders in the state of Virginia. Lyles was the Group AAA state runner-up in the 200 meter dash, while earning All-American honors with a 4th place finish in the finals of the 200 at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals. His season bests stood at 10.77 in the 100, 21.23 in the 200, and 49.04 in the 400 as he begins to get ready for his trip in early July to compete internationally for the first of potentially many times in his bright future.

Group AAA state 100 meter hurdles champion Chantel Ray of Hampton also made the trip to Illinois to compete in the World Youth Trials. Ray made the finals of the 100 meter hurdles, but she was unable to place high enough to be named to the team with a 5th place finals showing of 14.04 after running a personal best of 13.69 over 3 weeks ago at the Group AAA State Championships.
