Mustaqeem Williams did it again at the USATF Junior Olympic National Championships! After the Forest Park High School rising senior broke Lashawn Merritt's Virginia high school state record in the 200 meter dash on Saturday with a 21.64 clocking yesterday (into a -1.8 headwind) in Greensboro, North Carolina, Williams was back on the track again on Sunday in the finals of the 100 meter dash for the 17-18 age group division. Not only did Williams win his second USATF Junior Olympic national title of the weekend, but also made history twice in establishing a new Virginia high school state record in the 100 meter dash by beating the old all-time best performance of 10.37 from Tyrone Turpin of Heritage (Lynchburg) set back in 1990. At North Carolina A&T University's outdoor track facility in Greensboro, Williams stormed down the straightaway to a smoking time of 10.31 with a wind legal tailwind registered at 1.2 to dominate the field by two tenths of a second. This weekend has certainly been a breakthrough for an already greatly accomplished sprinter for Williams and sets himself up for even bigger things and expectations for 2014 and his senior year track as a state record holder in two events. Rarely is a state record set by athletes other than seniors and Williams will have the opportunity next year to improve upon the high bar which he has set for himself after an historically great weekend in Greensboro.
