Turner Ashby girls distance crew dominates

BRIDGEWATER, VA -- The 2001 Turner Ashby Relays was a meet where the team hosting the meet, Turner Ashby HS performed well on the home track and in particular, their girls distance squad.

The Turner Ashby girls won all of the distance running related events as they won the 1600, 3200, 4x800, and DMR.

Alesia Hovatter of Central was arguebably the top female track athlete at the meet as she won the 100m and 300m hurdles as well as a third place finish in the long jump.

The boys 3200m race was an exciting one as it came down to wire as Sherando's Jared Prunty just edged out one of the top independent school distance runner in the state, Brian Doherty of Roanoke Catholic. Prunty won in a meet record time of 9:34.59. Doherty's time of 9:35.53 was also better than the previous meet record time.

One of the top AA horizontal jumpers in the state, Jamaal Gardener of R.E. Lee set a new meet record in the triple jump with his mark of 44'10.00".
