Allie Klimkiewicz and Oakton girls fared well in a very competitive New York and Northeast crowd in the Eastern States Championship race on Saturday at the Manhattan College Invitational held on the historic 2.5 mile course at Van Cortland Park. Racing against some of the best programs in New York and the Northeast region, the VA #3 ranked Oakton girls placed 5th in the championship division with a team score of 175 points as they trailed behind some national powerhouse programs in New York's Unionville (1st, 89 pts) and Fayetteville-Manlius (2nd, 92 pts), Kentucky's Assumpton (3rd, 146 pts), and Pennsylvania's Pennsbury (4th, 159 pts). The Assumption girls are the top ranked team in the Southeast Region and were last week's Great American champions by one point over VA #1 Blacksburg, so the Oakton squad has to feel confident about themselves measuring up well to one of the best teams in the Southeast.
The Oakton girls averaged 15:33 as a squad on the 2.5 mile course. Returning Foot Locker finalist Allie Klimkiewicz led the Lady Cougars with an 8th place individual effort of 14:45, while the remaining top 5 scorers for Oakton were able to break into a stout top 50 with Hailey Dougherty (30th, 15:30), Casey Kendall (41st, 15:43), Leya Salis (46th, 15:46), and Kara Kendall (50th, 15:58).
Meanwhile, the Oakton boys were able to finish among the top half of the 27 team field for the Eastern States Championship boys' race with a 13th place showing and team total of 378 points. Jack Stoney of Oakton led the team as he was able to dip welll under 13 minutes at Vanny with a 23rd place clocking of 12:48.
